WHO WE ARE
Beyond Urban's cottages were the first structures to be built on the Misty Mountain Farm in 1980. Initially, these were constructed for labourers who worked on the farm, but they have now been restored to our relaxed rustic cottages.
The inhabitants of these quaint cottages worked on the original dairy farm that was located on the site. The farm workers used to start work at 4 am with their daily chores that included; milking the cows, feeding the calves and ensuring the mielie fields are in good standing. Being part of such a small community would ensure that plenty of daily laughs and stresses were shared amongst the workers. Today, we aim to honour this strong sense of community by having cottages that have a central focus and limited privacy. Additionally, a boma will ensure that night times are pleasantly spent around a fire, staying true to the South African culture.
FACILITIES
On-site facilities include a mashie chip-and-wedge golf course, foot golf, Black Bass and Kurper fishing (bring your own equipment), and mountain bike routes for those wishing to bring along their bikes and enjoy cycling through the plantations (permits available from reception). We also boast seasonal whale and dolphin viewing at the lookout point at Misty Mountain Reserve which is within walking distance from the cottages. At Misty Mountain Reserve, one can also enjoy walks and guided hikes, our friendly staff at reception will assist you in pre-booking, essential for these activities.
Our sister company, Tsitsikamma Adventure Land, is situated 100m away at the Misty Mountain Reserve. Tsitsikamma Adventure Land offers safe and exciting quad bike tours through the Tsitsikamma forest. These tours are guided by their fantastic and experienced guides and promise to be fun for everyone. There are many exciting adventures in the surrounding areas, make sure you don't miss out!
BE WARNED
The Tsitsikamma is well known for its dairy farming and we are surrounded by dairy farms with lush green pastures. As romantic as it sounds, these beautiful bovines can have a strong aroma from time to time. Please take note that this is out of our control, and a very healthy part of the dairy cycle. Insect spray is supplied for those unwanted visitors.
As such, our water supply is borehole water that is processed through a filtration system; the water is slightly tinted in colour due to the high iron content which is safe for bathing, but we don't recommend drinking it, purely because of the taste. However, a complimentary litre of water is provided in the fridge for coffee and tea.
As we are situated on a farm, please note that these quaint little self-catering cottages are at the end of a 4.8km gravel road off the N2, safe for sedan vehicles travelling at the recommended speed. Also, Beyond Urban does not have its own dedicated restaurant but we are situated 150m away from Misty Mountain Reserve, which boasts an eatery with a beautiful ocean view. A brisk walk will get you there in no time at all!
Beyond Urban consists of 5 old labourers cottages that have had a bespoke revamp, that is ideally suited for a thin wallet. For those of you who prefer fancier accommodation, please view Misty Mountain Reserve’s Ocean View Lodges and Lake Side Tent options.
